Obituary for Marilyn Otterson

Marilyn Otterson
Marilyn Joyce Otterson, aged 78, died peacefully on November 13, 2017, after an extended struggle with illness. Marilyn was born on July 6, 1939, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine (Hoffman) Zweig. On June 24, 1961, Marilyn married the love of her life, George L. Otterson Jr and they were blessed with three children, Michael David, John Scott and Kari Ann.

Marilyn attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Education and taught first grade until leaving to raise their three children. Marilyn and George lived for many years in Waterloo, IA. They retired to Broomfield, CO in 2001.

Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors and nature. She loved wildflowers and bird watching. She also enjoyed photography and traveling. She was able to visit many places in the US, including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as Europe. She adored her Grandchildren and loved spending time and playing with them.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Zweig. She is survived by her brother, David (Kathy) Zweig, and her husband of 56 years, George Otterson; sons, Mike Otterson of Thornton, CO, John (Ann) Otterson of Thornton, CO and her daughter, Kari (Kirk) Allen of Arlington Heights, IL; and five grandchildren Samantha Otterson, Ethan Fransen, Noah Otterson, Katia Fransen and Sophie Fransen; and a number of other relatives and friends.

A visitation and rosary service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held on Thursday, Nov 16, from 6-9 pm at Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield, CO. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov 17, at 11:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield, CO with a reception following at same location. Interment will be at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery.

Marilyn will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
